A deep fracture splits the world of digital health in two.

On one side, the healthcare system has poured billions into digitising its existing information transactions. On the other side, thousands of start-ups have built consumer health tools for self-care and self-management, most of which are completely disconnected from the healthcare system. This divide perpetuates and reinforces a similar fracture in our minds and lives: between the provider-centric and disease-focussed world of healthcare, and our everyday life in which we prioritise our holistic experience as human beings.

We need to bridge this divide. This means the abandoning our silo’s and finding space for healthcare providers, service users, designers, and technologists to co-create solutions together. It means focussing on care pathways, rather than individual healthcare transactions. The digital health solutions that will make a real difference to individuals and populations will be those that enable support person-centered care pathways, allowing seamless transitions between formal and informal contexts of care.

Attend Thomas Sutton‘s talk to explore the challenges and opportunities of a “pathway first” design approach, and learn about best practices for mapping, re-shaping, and digitally enabling new care pathways.

The talk will take place on November 18th, 3:30pm – 3:45pm, The Generator room.
